What size LED profile do I need for my LED strip?

The internal channel width of the LED profile must be equal to or wider than the LED strip you plan to install. Standard SMD LED strips are typically 8mm, 10mm or 12mm wide; high-density COB strips can be 12–20mm wide. Always check the maximum strip width specification listed for each profile before ordering. For 24V systems with runs over 3m, a wider internal channel also allows better airflow and heat dissipation around the strip.

Can LED profiles be plastered in?

Yes — plaster-in LED profiles (also called trimless profiles) are specifically designed to be set into walls or ceilings at first-fix stage, before plastering. The plasterer skims directly over the profile flanges, leaving a perfectly flush linear aperture in the finished surface with no visible housing. Plaster-in profiles must be installed before the plasterer arrives; retrofitting them into an already-plastered surface is not possible. They are popular in high-specification residential, kitchen and hospitality projects.

Are LED profiles available in 3 metre lengths?

Yes — many LED profiles are available in 3 metre lengths, alongside the more common 1m and 2m options. Three-metre lengths are particularly useful for commercial installations such as retail shelving runs, restaurant cove lighting and office indirect lighting, where fewer joins mean a cleaner, more professional result. Most aluminium profiles can also be cut to a shorter length on site using a fine-toothed hacksaw or mitre saw, so ordering a 3m length and cutting to fit is a practical approach.

Do LED profile kits include diffusers and end caps?

Most LED profile kits include a diffuser cover, end caps and mounting clips as standard. The diffuser cover — available in opal, semi-clear, transparent or black — snaps into the profile channel and spreads the light evenly. End caps close off the open ends of the extrusion for a neat finish and to prevent dust ingress. Mounting clips or brackets are used to fix the profile to the surface. Always check the individual product listing to confirm which accessories are included, as some profiles are sold as extrusion-only.

Are LED profiles available in 2 metre lengths?

Yes — 2 metre is the most widely stocked standard length for LED profiles and suits the majority of domestic and light commercial applications, including kitchen under-cabinet lighting, wardrobe interiors and retail shelving. Two-metre lengths balance ease of handling with minimal joins in the finished installation. For longer runs, 3 metre lengths are also available; for shorter runs, profiles can be cut to length on site with a fine-toothed hacksaw.

What is a surface mount LED profile?

A surface mount LED profile is an aluminium channel that fixes directly onto a wall, ceiling, shelf or other flat surface without any routing or cutting into the substrate. The profile is secured using mounting clips screwed to the surface, and the LED strip is inserted into the channel before the diffuser cover is snapped into place. Surface mount profiles are the fastest and most versatile installation method, suitable for kitchen cabinets, display shelving, retail fixtures and furniture lighting.

Are black LED profiles available?

Yes — black LED profiles are available in surface mount, recessed and corner styles. Black profiles are finished in either black anodised or black powder-coated aluminium and are often paired with a black or dark-tinted diffuser cover. They are particularly popular in retail display lighting, cinema rooms, restaurant interiors and contemporary residential projects where the profile should be visually recessive rather than a design feature in itself. Black body finishes are available in the same standard lengths (1m, 2m and 3m) as silver and white profiles.

How do I cut an aluminium LED profile to length?

To cut an aluminium LED profile to length, use a fine-toothed hacksaw or a mitre saw fitted with a metal-cutting blade. Mark your measurement clearly on the profile with a marker pen, clamp the profile securely in a vice or mitre box to prevent movement, and cut steadily without forcing the blade. Always wear safety goggles and remove all aluminium swarf from the channel before inserting the LED strip. Cut the LED strip itself at the designated cut points — marked every 50mm or 100mm depending on the strip type — to match the profile length.
